Call For Presentations
The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) announces the call for presentations for their 2008 fall conference at the Chicago Mart-Plaza Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, October 15-17. ASBPA is the nation’s oldest organization promoting science-based policies for the protection of beaches and shores.
Presentations are invited on topics related to the ASBPA missions. Preference will be given to presentations and posters that fit within one of the four conference tracks:
Global coastal issues
- Impacts of increasing rates of sea (and lake) level rise
- Adaptation of coastal environments and ecosystems
- International perspectives on coastal preservation
- Sustainable beaches: Structural and non-structural solutions
- Effects of extreme storms and tsunamis on the coast
- Regulatory policy changes to adapt to climate change
Federal, state, and local coastal policy
- The process of federal funding: Congress, OMB, and U.S. Army Corps
- Economics: Advantages of beaches
- ASBPA mission: Sustaining the federal partnership
- Integration of coastal science and policy for improved management
Coastal Protection & Structures
- State-of-the-art of coastal structures
- Combining hard and soft shore protection
- Management of coastal inlets: Dredging and/or bypassing
- Modeling sediment transport and coastal processes
- State and local policies: Coastal structures
Management, monitoring and mitigation
- Surfing: Great Lakes and marine beaches
- Remote Sensing
- Coastal ocean and weather observation systems
- Advances in environmental mitigation
- Education and public awareness
Submissions may be oral PowerPoint presentations, posters, or panels. One page abstracts are due May 9, 2008. Submit abstracts to Abstracts@asbpa.org as a PDF or Word document with a maximum file size of 1 MB. Abstracts must include the name, affiliation, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the primary corresponding author and include a brief (100 word) biography of the presenter. All expenses are the responsibility of the presenter, including travel, lodging, and registration fees. Submissions will be confirmed within a week of submittal and notification of the presentation status will be by July 1.
